I came to Charlie Health because I was at such a low place in my life; I felt I was dying with no way to stop the spiral and descent I was going down, but at the same time, I refused to go into another inpatient facility because of the negative, dehumanizing experience that I had before. In desperation, I reached out to a dear friend, and she recommended Charlie Health to me, so I made the call. I went in with very low expectations, and for the first few weeks, I felt I was wasting my time in these groups. But then, about four and a half weeks in, the bubble popped, and I had my first “aha” moment. Things started to fall into place, and I felt human again for the first time in over two decades. I started standing up for myself and advocating for the direction of my care. I stopped going into therapy with a prepared flowchart of how I needed the conversation to go and started truly healing. I let down my walls and shed many tears. I learned to be a human being again. I am truly thankful for my wonderful therapist, who helped me start healing the trauma I honestly thought I would never be able to heal from. I am also thankful to the plethora of group facilitators who brought unique flavors to each group they led. Most of all, I am thankful for the people I met along the way and wish kindness, love, and healing to all of them on their journeys.
